Piercing is a form of body art, where a part of the human body (usually the earlobes, nose, navel, tongue or nipple) is pierced with a needle and some jewelry is inserted into the hole. The piercing can either be temporary or permanent. Historically, it has been used by many different cultures for many different reasons. It was used for religious purposes in ancient India, as well as to mark people who had committed crimes. In the Western world, it has mostly been associated with alternative music culture and fashion. In this article we will look at some different types of piercings.
